Business Need

Managers are often expected to give feedback that is clear, specific, and constructive, yet many have limited guidance on how to do it effectively. Poorly delivered feedback can lead to confusion, defensiveness, and missed opportunities for performance improvement. This project was designed to help managers practice stronger feedback habits in a more interactive and personalized way.

Audience

This learning experience was designed for new and developing managers who need support delivering effective workplace feedback and want opportunities to practice communication in a safe, guided environment.

Learning Goals

Recognize the characteristics of clear, constructive manager feedback

Apply structured feedback techniques in realistic workplace situations

Reflect on response quality and improve communication through guided practice

Design Approach

This project was designed as an interactive practice experience focused on manager communication and applied learning. The content was structured to move beyond static instruction by giving learners opportunities to respond, reflect, and receive targeted feedback. The experience was built to reinforce practical workplace communication skills while keeping the interaction concise, engaging, and relevant.

AI Enhanced Workflow

AI-Powered Reflection Interaction

The project uses an OpenAI API connection to evaluate learner-entered feedback responses and return AI-generated coaching. This creates a more personalized learning moment by allowing managers to practice and receive immediate, targeted feedback.

Design Oversight and Alignment

Instructional design judgment guided how AI was used throughout the project, ensuring that the interaction remained aligned to the learning goals, the feedback models, and the overall learner experience.

AI was used intentionally as both a development support tool and a core part of the learner interaction to strengthen reflection, practice, and feedback.

Project Process

Step 1

Analysis

Defined the learning need around manager feedback and identified the key communication challenges the experience needed to address, including clarity, tone, specificity, and constructive guidance.

Step 2

Design

Used an ADDIE-informed approach to organize the experience around realistic manager situations, structured response opportunities, and feedback models that support stronger workplace conversations.

Step 3

Development

Built the project in Adobe Captivate, integrating learner input, interactive flow, and AI-supported feedback to create a more dynamic practice experience.

Step 4

Portfolio Presentation

Adapted the final project into a portfolio case study that highlights instructional design strategy, AI integration, and the development of an interactive workplace learning solution.
